An oil rig which was blocked from leaving the Cromarty Firth in 2018 has been sold to a Turkish recycling firm for scrapping The Ocean Vanguard, now simply known as “Van”, has been sold to Turkey’s Rota Shipping and is now leaving the Firth after around eight years in the region. Read more here

More than 1,000 North Sea oil and gas wells will be decommissioned over the next five years, the UK regulator has said, carrying a multi-billion-pound prize. The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has estimated 150-200 wells will be fully decommissioned each year over that time frame, at an annual spend of £700m – £1bn. Read more here
Well-Safe Solutions has named Spirit Energy as the operator for its inaugural contract for its new Defender rig in the North Sea. The decommissioning specialist announced a 14-well contract for the Well-Safe Defender rig back in July, however the customer was undisclosed. Read more here
North Sea operators EnQuest (LON:ENQ) and Repsol Sinopec Resources UK have set out a series of upcoming decom contracts for nearly 200 oil and gas wells.
