Decom Mission, the only trade organisation solely focused upon late life and decommissioning, has launched Decom Week 2024 with a call for abstracts, and by opening entries for this year’s Decom Mission Awards.
A fixture in the industry calendar for over ten years, Decom Week ’24, entitled “Changing Perspectives: Meeting Demand for Future Challenges” will take place at the Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen, UK between 20 – 24 May.
Decom Mission Chief Executive, Sam Long, says the agenda has been developed to examine the detail of decommissioning across the energy industry:
“We’ve spent the past year visiting our members and stakeholders, conducting deep dives into their businesses and reviewing current and future needs. The themes for Decom Week ‘24 have been developed as a result.
“They reflect the emphasis placed on technical innovation and how we harness those advances, the material changes that are happening across the sector – from company structure to the recruitment and development of people, and the on-going challenges faced in ensuring a sustainable supply network as demands open up from competing locations and industries.
“Our members, whether supplier or operator, are looking for us to bring them the specifics across Decom Week’s three key themes and we invite abstracts which examine The Role of Technology, Application of Lessons Learned and Driving Material Change.
“In other words, we’re asking for submissions which delve right into the heart of the development of decommissioning and answer the current challenges presented by this sector.”

This week also sees the launch of seventh Decom Mission Awards. Open to Decom Mission members and non-members, they will focus upon all forms of innovation, the sector’s community of emerging professionals and sustainable activity in decommissioning. The “Decom Mission Member” category will once again recognise outstanding achievement from within the organisation’s UK and international membership.
