Decom Mission to Join Forces with Port of Blyth and Thompsons of Prudhoe to Showcase North East Decommissioning Expertise

On September 26th, 2023, Decom Mission, the only independent trade association focused on energy decommissioning, will welcome delegates to Port of Blyth’s Battleship Wharf Terminal, the home of the Port’s decommissioning facility operated in partnership with Thompsons of Prudhoe.

Decom Live will exhibit a wide range of decommissioning solutions and innovations, offering the opportunity to hear from cross-industry speakers and to network with industry professionals. The event will enable visitors to come face-to-face with suppliers, equipment and technology while experiencing the busy decommissioning site at the Port of Blyth.

Martin Lawlor, Chief Executive at the Port of Blyth, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Decom Live for the first time, here at the Port of Blyth. Our impressive decommissioning facilities combined with our strategic partnership with Thompsons of Prudhoe have attracted several major decommissioning projects to Blyth. The event is a fantastic opportunity for the Port and its supply chain to showcase its capabilities to the industry.”

Callum Falconer, Decom Mission’s Operations Director, added: “The latest in this highly popular series of events, Decom Live at Port of Blyth represents an excellent opportunity for delegates to not only familiarise themselves with the Port’s facilities and stakeholders but also to get close up and personal with actual decommissioned topsides and jackets at the yard. There is also a wide-ranging speaker programme, focusing on the topics we know are at the top of the industry’s agenda.

“Our objective is to ensure the right conversations are being had to drive global decommissioning forward, and we’ve proven before that a working quayside location is conducive to developing these connections and effectively sharing information, whilst bringing to life the opportunities and capabilities within this sector.”

Strategically located on the UK’s east coast, the decommissioning facility at the Port of Blyth offers a 2.3ha designated site handling up to 50,000 tonnes of materials per year including NORM and is well placed to serve all sectors of the North Sea.

Tom Koerner, Operations Director at Thompsons of Prudhoe, said: “It will be a pleasure to showcase our busy site at the Port of Blyth to the Decom industry at Decom Live. Our partnership with the Port of Blyth has significantly enhanced UK offshore decommissioning capability and we look forward to strengthening our network at this event.”
