Decom Mission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Nuclear Forum (INF), with both organisations aligned in creating a safe, sustainable and competitive nuclear decommissioning supply chain in the country.
The agreement brings together Decom Mission’s cross-industry, international experience across oil and gas, nuclear and renewables with INF’s in-depth knowledge of India’s expanding civil nuclear programme and its emerging supply chain.
As India develops its nuclear programme, with a long-term target of 100 GW of nuclear power capacity, the industry will require capabilities across the complete nuclear lifecycle, including ageing asset management, plant life management and eventual decommissioning.
The partnership will therefore expand the nuclear industry conversation from new-build projects to the complete lifecycle of nuclear assets. In this respect, the MoU centres on the key areas of knowledge exchange and cross-sector supply chain transfer with a programme of activity in the pipeline which will include sharing expertise on decommissioning and late-life planning, including UK approaches and the requirements emerging in India as its nuclear fleet matures.
Key to the programme will be the facilitation of introductions between Decom Mission members and the Indian nuclear industry’s operators and supply chain, with a view to technology supply, collaborative ventures and co-manufacturing arrangements.
Callum Falconer, Operations Director of Decom Mission, said: “Ensuring our members have the ability to apply their expertise across industries and borders is central to our strategy and this MoU is a clear demonstration of that commitment. The decommissioning capability and talent developed in the UK are world-class, and they have a real contribution to make as India plans for the long-term management of its nuclear assets. We look forward to working with INF to build lasting partnerships between our members and India’s nuclear industry.”
Commenting on the partnership, the India Nuclear Forum adds: “India’s nuclear expansion requires us to think beyond new capacity. We also need to build knowledge and capabilities for the complete lifecycle of nuclear assets. Our partnership with Decom Mission will create opportunities for Indian and international stakeholders to share experience, develop new connections and strengthen the wider nuclear ecosystem.”
The India Nuclear Forum and Decom Mission will continue discussions on the joint programme, with further details on seminars, events and trade missions to be announced in due course.
